bamboo

Panda fodder still flourishes in a Kyoto garden. These tall grasses creak melodically as the wind sways. To warn of burglars, one of the emperors in this tranquil place ordered that his perfectly aligned palace floorboards be made to squeak. Artisans made this alarm mimic the sound of a nightingale, so sleeping concubines need not be disturbed. Ancient delicacy, decadence.
